CHRISTIANITY SYMBOLS
The Christian cross is to remind Christians that God died on the cross for them, to save them. The cross is the main Christian symbol. There are many different types of crosses.
The fish symbol was created using the Greek letters which spell out ICTHUS (Jesus Christ God's Son Saviour). ICTHUS also means fish so the fish symbol was used when the early church was being persecuted. It was a secret sign scratched on the walls of buildings or drawn on the floor in the sand so poeple knew where a Christian meeting was being held. It's is still sometimes used today.
Christ's name in Greek--well the first two letters--are x/p. Jesus was a carpenter like his earthly father, but many of Jesus's friends and followers were all fishermen so that is what the boat symbolizes on the right. The boat is a symbol of his friends and followers. On the top of the boat there is a cross and then there are the letters X and P on the sail.
As you know from above the first letters of Christ's name is X and P. That s where the symbol on the right came from. It is called the Chi Ro symbol.
"Alpha and omega - the beginning and the end of the Greek alphabet - demonstrates that God is first, and last - eternal!"
